Grabbing at rainbows
A beveled glass window in the front door casts rainbows around the living room in the afternoon. These pretty little plays of light often catch the attention of small children, as they attempt to pick them up or to step on them. My youngest nephew, Reese, is no different. He began crawling less than a week ago, and I first saw him do it yesterday. It was a sweet moment. He crawled away from me to reach for this odd thing on the floor, which, of course, he couldn't touch. After playing with the light for a minute or two, he became frustrated and crawled back to me, reaching for me and fussing. I picked him up, rocked him from side to side and began to sing him a lullaby. The child was asleep before I finished, and it's a moment I'll always cherish.
